Carrie Fisher, best known as "Star Wars'" Princess Leia, is not having the time of her life at sea. Queerty has reported that Fisher was scheduled as the surprise guest on board the Holland America Eudoram gay-themed cruise, but her performance had to be shut down early, as the former "Star Wars" starlet appeared to be incoherent and under the influence of something. But was she really? Below is a recording from part of the performance:
Fisher has in the past been open about her history of alcoholism and addiction. In 2008, she published a memoir, "Wishful Drinking," based off her one-woman play of the same name, which toured major cities in the U.S, and was followed by a successful HBO Special. "Wishful Drinking" illustrates the story of Fisher's life as the child of Hollywood stars Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, her struggles with addiction, her fame, her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and her recovery from drugs and alcohol.
Queerty's source explained the bizarre Caribbean gay cruise mishaps as follows:
Some gays started seeing her act weird earlier in Half Moon Bay -- swimming with all her clothes on.
Carrie showed up to her 8:30 p.m. show trashed and incoherent. Her dog joins her on the stage -- only to take two shits. As audience members began to leave, she started chasing them out of the auditorium. They shut down the remainder of the show and canceled her 10:30 p.m. show.
Obviously the gays love the drama -- it was the only time you saw anyone spend the $16-per-minute on Internet service to tell their friends back home.
Not everyone left the auditorium, however. As the show went on, Carrie invited members of the audience on stage to chat with her. She ended up giving out her address to the audience and inviting them all to come visit her in LA, saying, "I have this really trippy house, and I want you guys to visit. I'm not joking. The other people that left [the auditorium], they're not ready to visit."
A commenter on Cruise Critic, noting that Fisher may not have been drunk after all, and defended her in her fragile state.
"Please be understanding with Carrie. She was not under any influence ... Those of us who know people with the same situation knew right away what was happening. She was in one of those highs and it can appear to be other causes."
The commenter was referring to a manic episode, a period of increased excitability and impulsivity that plague those with Manic Depression, which Fisher suffers from.
In recent years, the former Hollywood starlet as starred as a guest on "30 Rock," playing a comedy writer whom Liz Lemon idolizes, until she realizes Carrie's character is insane. Let's hope that the ever-funny, self-parodying actress will take this incident in stride, as she has done so well in the past.
