The Golden State Warriors seem to have resolved the problem between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole by handing out a fine to the four-time NBA champion. However, the question is how the incident will affect the trust and working relationship of the Dubs with Green.
Green was only fined and not suspended by the Warriors after a video of his vicious punch on Poole made its rounds on the internet. This led to the 32-year-old stepping away for a while as he tries to recompose himself from the said incident.
But if the words of head coach Steve Kerr are to be considered, all that may be coming to an end. After revealing the fine, the NBA champion coach said that Green will rejoin the team on Thursday and also play in their preseason game on Friday.
Further, Green will also allegedly be in uniform when the Warriors open their 2022-23 NBA season against the Los Angeles Lakers next Tuesday.
“We’ve spent the last week in deep discussions with all of our key figures in the organization, including Jordan [Poole] and Draymond, of course, Steph [Curry], all of our players, Bob [Myers, general manager], myself,” Kerr said. “And I can tell you there have been a lot of conversations, individual one-on-one discussions, players-only discussions…”
“We feel like this is the best way, after assessing everything, for us to move forward. Never easy, no matter what decision you make in a situation like this. It’s not going to be perfect. This is the biggest crisis that we’ve ever had since I’ve been coaching. It’s really serious stuff,” the Warriors coach added.
Kerr also explained that he has been working with Green for quite some time now and this was not the first time that the All-Star player has had run-ins.
However, he said that he is giving Green the benefit of the doubt, something he believes is shared by the team.
Looking ahead, it will be interesting how the Warriors’ season will go. Green is due a new contract and the performance of the Warriors this NBA season could play a major role in that – same with Jordan Poole.
