The FBI released photos of three men wanted in connection with the attack on the United States Embassy in Benghazi in September 2012. The attack was planned on the same day as the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

The ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the embassy assault.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the gunmen's assault, but the FBI is asking the Libyan people to help identify the three men wanted in the Benghazi attacks.

In a flyer posted on the FBI website, the bureau asks "Libyans and people around the world for additional information related to the attacks, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans."

The poster goes on to say, "We are seeking information about three individuals who were on the ground of the U.S. Special Mission when it was attacked."

The FBI information poster does not say that the three men wanted in connection with the Benghazi attack are suspects but it does say, "These individuals may be able to provide information to help the investigation."

According to NBC News several hundred gunmen opened fire at the embassy in Benghazi in 2012. The FBI has 25 suspects to look at in connection with what happened in Benghazi. Not one of them is behind bars.

However, Fox News is reporting, "One individual held in Tunisia was released by a judge in January. Sources told Fox News that the U.S. has actually identified the mastermind of the attack, who according to them is walking free in Libya, though that claim has not been confirmed publicly by federal officials."

An email sent from the State Department to various U.S. government officials, including the White House, stated that when the attack first happened to let the government know the embassy was in danger.

CBS News got a hold of the emails and published them. In the first email, sent at 4:05 p.m. on September 11, 2012, the writer says that the embassy is under attack by "approximately 20 armed people." The email goes on to say that "Ambassador Stevens [is] in the compound safe haven."

The following two emails sent at 4:45 p.m. and 6:07 p.m. say that the attack has stopped and a response team "is attempting to locate personnel." The 6:07 email says that the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia has claimed responsibility for the attack on the embassy.

The motives of the attack on the Benghazi embassy were at first thought to be over anger due to an anti-Muslim film posted on YouTube. That theory was later proved to be wrong. Now it seems the attack was yet another act of aggression by those who consider America the enemy. The date of the attack 9/11/12 was used as a tactic to scare the American people.

In April 2013, seven months after the attack, the House Republicans released a report blaming former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the attacks, saying she turned down requests made by the embassy for more security.

The 43-page report also blames President Obama for not foreseeing the impact the date 9/11 would have on those who wish violence against the United States.
