It's confirmed: Lawrence Gilliard Jr. is joining the walkers. Or the living, to be more exact.
"The Wire" alumnus has been cast as Bob Stookey -- previously referred to as Roy Stark -- a character taken straight from the comic books. He is a former Army medic and is haunted by the ghosts of his past.
Stookey will reportedly be a bit of a lone wolf, but he will also be charismatic and self-deprecating when he needs to be. It will be a good addition to the show, as season 3 saw the loss of Lori, Andrea, Merle and T-Dog.
Gilliard, who rose to fame as D'Angelo Barksdale in "The Wire" and also appeared in "Gangs of New York" and "Southland," will be reunited with Chad Coleman, who played Dennis "Cutty" Wise in the crime show and portrays Tyreese in "The Walking Dead".
"The Walking Dead" will begin filming new episodes in May, and the premiere is expected in October.
