It's that time of the season. The eagerly awaited Season 3 finale of "The Walking Dead" was aired yesterday night, closing on a thrilling slew of episodes that axed half of the characters, maimed the other half and had viewers biting their nails to their wrists.

As promised, the finale left 27 bodies behind ... but, to the annoyance of some fans, none of those belonged to the Governor. In fact, the Governor was in all of his evilness and glory throughout the entire episode.

The one-eyed torturer starts with punching Milton to an inch of his life, only to ask him to go kill Andrea, who is strapped to a chair nearby. When he fails to, the Governor stabs Milton in the stomach and locks him in, so he can think about his actions as a zombie.

The Governor then proceeds to gather his militia, who make an explosive entrance at the prison by blowing up the watchtower and eliminate all the docile walkers who wandered in the field for so long. At the same time, Rick's crew makes the most of what they have. They plant smoke grenades that manage to scare off the militia, who then get blasted by the Governor for their cowardice. Allen and his son die, but Karen, hiding under a body, survives.

Carl, meanwhile, wants to be on the frontlines, despite the straight prohibition from his father to do so. When he kills an armed teenage boy, Hershel brings him back to Rick, who dishes out some much-needed parenting to his strained son.

Rick, Michonne and Daryl go to Woodbury to try to make some sense. They find Karen, who manages to convince Tyreese and Sasha to let them in.

Andrea manages to free herself from the chair as Milton, now undead, bites her off. Rick's crew find her in a corner hanging for her life, before she shoots herself before the weeping Michonne. In doing so, Andrea joins the two key experiences of her post-apocalyptic life: she considered suicide in the season 1 finale, but later regained her strength. Now, she joins her sister and the rest in the other side.

Rick manages to get the remaining residents of Woodbury to the prison, which they now call dibs. The Governor is nowhere to be seen, plotting some evil plan that we will have to wait until October to discover.
