Six years ago, Volkswagen teamed up with Fender Guitars, promoting an awesome custom Fender First Act guitar with every Volkswagen purchase. Six years later, the funky collaboration continues.
Fender and Beetle, both pop cult icons in each its own right, were celebrated in a unique concept first unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Tomorrow, the Volkswagen Beetle Fender Edition will finally make its world debut on June 2nd at Germany's Leipzig International Auto Show.
Painted in a Deep Black Metallic and featuring brushed chrome exterior mirrors and a set of 18-inch "Disc" alloy wheels, the The Volkswagen Beetle Fender Edition's vintage aesthetics celebrates its Beetle heritage well. To set it apart, the famous Fender logo is featured forward the passenger door. Inside, Volkswagen features a truly distinct painted dashboard finished in the same sunburst colors as Fender guitars. Other interior highlights include seat inserts, as well as color-contrasting seams and accents that complement the dashboard colors.
All that makes for a fun special-edition car, but the real party piece has got to be the exclusive Fender Premium Audio System, featuring no fewer than nine speakers along with a 10-channel amplifier providing 400 Watts of system power. First debuting in an earlier Jetta GLI, the Fender sound system boasts stunning soundstage-like qualities that promises an experience akin to a live performance. In an audio comparison, CNET.com voted Fender for "Best-sounding car audio." Who knew that an American musical icon would go so well with the German city car for the people?
The Beetle Fender Edition is motivated by the popular Volkswagen 2.0 liter turbocharged TSI 4-cylinder engine, producing 200-hp. Available first in the European market, the Beetle Fender Edition will arrive to America by fall, 2012. Pricing on the special-edition Beetle has yet to be announced.
