The Season 5 premiere of "The Voice" got heated last night as the coaches fought over 20-year-old rugby-playing college student Matthew Schuler. He performed Young The Giant's "Cough Syrup" with an a cappella opening and received the fastest four-chair turnaround in show's history. Despite Adam Levine climbing up on top of his chair, Christina Aguilera won over the singer to be his coach. "Let me be the first female coach to win this thing," Christina pleaded. The second episode of the blind auditions will air tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. If you missed last night's premiere you can watch it HERE on the show's website, along with each of the blind auditions. You'll be able to watch tonight's episode online tomorrow.
Last night during the premiere, we saw Adam pick up three artists including 55-year-old soul singer Donna Allen, Nic Hawk who performed "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" and 22-year-old Apple store employee James Wolpert. Blake Shelton snagged country singer Shelbie Z who performed Gretchen Wilson's "Here For The Party." Christina won over Matthew Schuler and Josh Logan who performed Alex Clare's "Too Close" to an almost exact rendition. Cee Lo Green got rock singer Kat Robichaud and talented 17-year-old Caroline Pennell who performed a unique cover of Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen." Of course, the coaches fought like usual. Adam seems especially set on getting the other three coaches to gang up on Blake and get him to lose. "He's due for a loss," quipped the Maroon 5 singer.
