Rumors of the death of Vicente Fernández ran rampant on Twitter after a dubious e-mail made the rounds. The letter claims that the 74-year-old artist passed away, but the report is false. News of the death circulated back in April, according to Excelsior, that reports it a virus that can harm users computers. The new e-mail uses the same body of text as that previous false alarm. "The Mexican singer Vicente Fernández has just died at the age of 74 in an automobile accident on Insurgentes street when he was traveling from a family reunion at high speed," the letter reads. Back in April, Vicente's son, Vicente Fernández Jr. warned users not to open the e-mail as it was a virus.
Just this week the "ranchero" announced he would retake his farewell tour in September. Three concerts in the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City would mark his return after falling ill. "I have been enjoying my home, my family and working on my albums," he said in a statement. "I feel fine and I want to say goodbye in cities that I didn't have the opportunity to be at during by farewell tour." Back in August of 2013 he was treated for pulmonary embolism where he stayed in the hospital for a couple of days. "I am very calm and the doctors tell me that I will be fine, that I have been through worse," Fernández said in a statement. "There is Vicente for a while. I thank all the public and the media that always keep me in their thoughts. I know I will be fine, but with all your prayers I will be even better."
Vicente is scheduled to make an appearance at the commemoration of the Battle of Zacatecas this month. The month-long celebration is in reference to one of the bloodies battles in the campaign to overthrow Mexican President Victoriano Huerta in 1914. With the centennial this year many artists will take center stage to help with the festivities. Guadalupe Pineda, Tania Libertad, Eugenia Leon and Pepe Aguilar are other artists that will bring light and music to this anniversary.
