Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accused mayor Ramon Muchacho as complicit in the violences taking place in the municipality of Chacao after a group of student protesters tried to block the Francisco Fajardo freeway. "Mayor Ramón Muchacho, you are responsible for the peace in the neighborhood of Chacao, I make you responsible for what happens today in Chacao...if the Prosecution or the tribunals order the government to arrest Ramón Muchacho, Ramón Muchacho will go to jail, I have no doubt," said Maduro.
Nicolas Maduro has accused Ramón Muchacho of threatening the Government through the media, and indicated that he would comply with any order from the Supreme Court. He added that Muchacho "talks, talks and says nothing," and that when something happens "he comes out running to say: 'it wasn't me, I didn't say that," making reference to a video that emerged a few days ago which showed Muchacho talking to various residents in Chacao.
Nicolas Maduro referenced the arrest of the mayor of the municipality of San Cristóbal, in the state of Táchira, Daniel Ceballos, after having flouted the order from the Supreme Court to take down the barricades that students had raised in protest of the Venezuelan government: "The Chief Prosecutor ordered the Government to arrest the terrorist groups in San Cristóbal and I immediately had that order carried out, and they were captured here in Caracas," said Maduro.
