President of Venezuela Hugo Chávez has returned home Monday morning after being treated in Cuba.
After two months of receiving cancer-related surgery, the South American leader returned home. Chávez sent out this tweet confirming the news, thanking the people who helped treat him.
Prior to today, we hadn't heard from the 58-year-old President since Nov. 1. While we're unsure of what exactly Chávez was treated for, it appears to have something to do with a respiratory infection. CNN mentions Chávez is having difficulty speaking after doctors inserted a tracheal tube. While he may sound a bit different than the Chávez the world is used to, he is still able to speak.
Fidel Castro, former leader of Cuba, wrote in a letter saying he was pleased that Chávez was able to return home.
"You learned much about life, Hugo, during those difficult days of suffering and sacrifice ... Now that we will no longer have the privilege of receiving news of you every day, we will return to the kind of (written) correspondence we have used for years."
Many Venezuelans are excited to hear he's back. Having just been reelected in October, Chávez will spend another six years as Venezuela's president.
