The state of Texas has recently been rocked with the news of a native carrying out a murder-for-hire plot. It is being reported that Velasco Gurralo has been convicted of murdering his wife, her sister and their father in Mexico.
According to FOX News Latino, 41-year-old Velasco Gurralo of El Paso faces a mandatory life in prison sentence after being convicted eartlier this week. Charged with conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and conspiracy to cause foreihn travel for murder for hire, it took a jury less than three hours to bring in a verdict of guilty on both counts.
The site reports that two of Velasco's relatives also pleaded guilty to conspiracy-relted counts and face life terms as well.
Prosecutors said that the murders of Velasco's sister-in-law and father-in-law were planned to lure his wife, Ruth Sagredo Escobedo across the border to Mexico's Ciudad Juarez.
Testimony from the trial revealed that Velasco worked with two siblings to kill his wife in an attempt to keep her from testifying against him in a sex assault of a child case.
Velasco faced up to 99 years in prison for a 2005 sexual assault case where his wife was a witness and set to testify. The case was eventually dismissed in light of Sagredo's murder.
Two of velasco's relatives also pleaded guilty to conspiracy-related counts and face life terms in prison as well.
Francisco Maria Sagredo Villareal was murdered inside his home in October of 2008 and a month later his daughter, Cinthia Sagredo Escobedo was found murdered in the border city. Velasco's wife was killed a few days later at her sister's funeral service.
Testimony reveals that Velasco had originally intended to kill his wife during the father's funeral, but the plan fell through. He instead proceeded to kill his sister-in-law to bait Sagredo into coming back home.
Justice has been served.
