A 1993 Lexus LS400 luxury sedan driven by a teenager careened into the patio of a Las Vegas Restaurant Monday afternoon. 10 people were injured before the vehicle finally came to a stop. According to reports, the vehicle broke through the restaurant window and its engine was still revving. A serious accident that occurred at 12:30 p.m., restaurant Egg & I's peak lunch hour, at least 150 patrons were in the restaurant when the accident occurred.
"I screamed, 'A car's coming!' and it exploded through the window," said Suziliene McDonald, who sat with her two sisters in the restaurant when she saw the approaching vehicle. "The motor was still revving and the dust came right after it, just like in the movies."
First responders quickly rushed to the scene. Firefighters had to free four victims that were pinned underneath the Lexus, including a young boy. McDonald described a woman lying on her stomach under the car. The woman's son was also stuck in a crouching position underneath the car.
The 10 victims were promptly taken to two hospitals for treatment. Some were seriously injured.
Police claim the Lexus was travelling westbound on the busy thoroughfare when it collided into two other cars before it jumped the median and crashed into the restaurant. The driver of the Lexus, an 18-year-old male, claimed he blacked out when the accident occurred. However, the driver and his passenger decided to make a run for it when several witnesses jumped over the fence to tackle them and to hold them at the scene until authorities arrived.
According to police, the young driver will likely receive charges for felony reckless driving. The passenger, another male, has not been charged.
