Utah Police's Horrific Discovery of Missing Woman's Body Parts Stuffed in Trash Bags Revealed: 'The Smell of Decomposition Was Plain'

Utah police searching for a missing woman found her human remains stuffed in garbage bags in a shed Monday, and the officers who made the discovery revealed in court filings how their noses led them to the scene.

Police had been searching for Lesa Hyde when the discovery was made. The incident unfolded when officers received a 911 call of a dead body in a shed. When they arrived, Arthuro Carrion, 53, was standing outside and handed officers a key to the shed, telling them they would find a dead body inside, KUTV reported.

Police made a social media post Jan. 29, enlisting the public's help in finding Hyde. They stated that she had been missing since December.

"When the shed was opened, the smell of decomposition was plain," the station quoted a probable cause affidavit. "Several bags were opened. A black bag was opened, and a forearm of a human body was seen inside."

Police arrested Carrion at the scene. He has since been charged with murder, police said.

According to KUTV, Carrion had told a witness the day before the body was found that he had done something bad, adding that he had "pulled a Rick." Police later found that "Rick" was a family member of Carrion's who had murdered his girlfriend.
