Following the electrocution of a Chinese woman that may have been caused by a counterfeit iPhone charger Apple has decided to launch a "take back" recycle program to dispose of any USB power adapter used with the iPhone and iPad.

The company is also offering official replacement chargers for $10 to anyone who turns in a suspect adapter.

The special pricing on Apple USB power adapters is limited to one adapter for each iPhone, iPad, and iPod owned, according to Apple. The program will end in October.

The circumstances surrounding the woman's death is still uncertain. It is still unknown whether she was using a genuine Apple power adapter. Counterfeit products are common in China, and the China Consumers Association warned in May of the dangers of uncertified power chargers.

Some reports have indicated the woman had stepped out of a bath to answer the phone.

Apple is expected by many to launch a cheaper version of its iPhone later this year to pursue growth in China and other developing markets and to compete against rival Samsung's smartphones.
