As World Cup qualifying rolls on, each team across the landscape of international soccer continues to prepare for a possible berth in next summer's tournament. The resumption of the qualifying round saw teams such as Costa Rica, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece surge to the top of their respective groups while teams including Mexico, Ukraine, France and Uruguay still have plenty of work to do in order to qualify for the 2014 Brazil games. Though many of the aforementioned teams are expected to represent their particular nations next year, previous setbacks have many squads searching for answers as qualifying matches near completion.

One of the more intriguing matches coming up is a CONCACAF Hexagonal showdown between the United States Men's National team and Mexico. Thanks to a recent loss to Costa Rica, the USMNT saw their 12-match win streak come to a screeching halt while the team also relinquished the top spot in the group to the Costa Ricans following the 3-1 defeat. Though they currently sit fourth in the CONCACAF group, El Tri will enter the next match with a new leader on the sideline. Following a loss to Honduras in their last contest, Chepo de la Torre was relieved of his duties as El Tri manager and now it will be up to Luis Fernando Tena to right the ship. The top 3 teams in CONCACAF automatically advance to the 32-team tournament so El Tri's upcoming match with the USMNT is obviously crucial.

When and Where to Watch USA vs. Mexico

The USA and Mexico will meet at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, September 10 at 8:00pm, ET. Television coverage for the World Cup qualifier will be provided by the ESPN Network and the UniMas Network with an on-line live stream available by visiting WatchESPN. Pre-match coverage on ESPN begins at 7:00pm.

Important Notes and Coaching Quotes - El Tri

Mexico would surely help themselves in the CONCACAF standings with a victory over the short-handed United States on Tuesday night. While the top 3 teams at the end of qualifying will automatically qualify for a spot at the World Cup, the fourth place finisher - currently Mexico - must enter a playoff with New Zealand in order to determine another tournament slot. With 3 matches remaining in the qualifying round, new coach Luis Fernando Tena knows what's at stake.

"Every coach wants to manage the national team, but not under these circumstances. They're not ideal because a friend, a boss has to go," Tena, who was a top assistant for Chepo de la Torre said recently. "These are not the perfect conditions because the standings are saying that we are in a very tough spot. I have faith in these players, I know them very well and I'm sure that the team will improve. They are committed and they are sticking together and that leads me to believe that we can play a good role in Columbus, even though nobody can guarantee a good result."

Important Notes and Coaching Quotes - United States

The USMNT will be without midfielder Michael Bradley on Tuesday night after the 'most important player for the Americans' rolled his ankle before Friday's 3-1 loss to Costa Rica. In addition to not having the services of Bradley, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann and company will have to deal with the absence of star striker Jozy Altidore and defenders Matt Besler and Geoff Cameron. The trio are suspended for the match against El Tri for picking up yellow cards against Costa Rica. Clarence Goodson has been added to the defensive line-up while Joe Corona, Jose Torres and Brad Davis have been put on the roster for midfield support.

Knowing his team can qualify for the 2014 World Cup with a victory over Mexico and a win or tie by Honduras (who takes on Panama Tuesday night), Jurgen Klinsmann says the plan will remain the same with the national team and that qualifying is never easy no matter what the circumstances are.

"I don't think it changes a lot," the USMNT head coach said. "We need to have our four points at least to qualify. We will get those four points. We're going to have to have guys step up, there's no question. I think we've talked about it over the last three years: We build toward this every game, so a guy can step in and not miss a beat and get the cohesion right."
