The 2013 U.S. Open Grand Slam Championship is underway to its 6th day in New York, and Friday saw the top seeds on the men's and women's side play second- and third-round matchups. Saturday will bring more of the same, starting with men's No. 2 Rafael Nadal, who will try and make his push into the fourth round with a match against Ivan Dodig, who actually beat him the last time they played against each other on hard court.
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray both had their moments of concern before winning in the second round of the U.S. Open on Friday, taking strides toward a seemingly destined semifinal clash. After struggling at the beginning, Djokivic stepped up and won against Benjamin Becker of Germany. The same with Murray, who seemed to be in trouble against Leonardo Mayer, but won the last five games.
Since they played yesterday, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are not playing today, so the next-highest seed after Nadal is No. 4 David Ferrer, who will face off with Mikhail Kukushkin in the Grandstand. No. 7 Roger Federer, who seems healthy for the first time in a couple months, will be taking on Adrian Mannarino on Saturday. And although Mannarino upset Sam Querrey in his last match, he's likely no match for a healthy Federer.
John Isner will also be back at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Saturday, and the guess here is that the American crowd will be firmly on his side. This comes after his second-round victory against Gael Monfils, when the crowd began cheering for the entertaining Frenchman. Isner expressed some disappointment after not feeling supported by his people. Isner faces Philipp Kohlschreiber for a spot in the fourth round. The same guy that knocked him out of the tournament last year in the third round.
On the women's side, No. 2 Victoria Azarenka will be in action against No. 26 Alize Cornet. No. 7 Petra Kvitova will be taking on Alison Riske, and No. 10 Roberta Vinci will take on Karin Knapp. Also, Serena Williams will be teaming with her older sister, Venus for doubles on Saturday. They'll be playing against Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears. Other notable matches for the men include No. 8 Richard Gasquet vs. No. 32 Dmitry Tursunov and No. 10 Milos Raonic vs. No. 23 Feliciano Lopez.
A complete list of the Saturday schedule can be found here, and the television coverage runs on the CBS Sports Network through 6 p.m. The Tennis Channel will pick up coverage at 7 p.m. and run through 11 p.m. If you're one of the many experiencing from the CBS Blackout on Time Warner Cable, you can watch your favorite tennis stars on the live streaming at U.S. Open Live.
