Cristián De La Fuente might not be completely recognized in the mainstream media, but is a household name in the Latino community thanks to his work in telenovelas. Over the years, the Chilean heartthrob has starred in Univision soaps like "Amor Bravío," "Corazón Salvaje (2009)," "Quiero Amarte" and "Soñar No Cuesta Nada." When the 41-year-old actor made headlines yesterday after dropping out of the Miss USA 2015 Spanish simulcast hosting gig, Us magazine reported on the story since it heat up social media. The tabloid publication wrote a piece about Cristián canceling following Donald Trump's disgusting remarks about Latinos.
"Mr. Trump, as a Latino I cannot work in an event associated with your name," he said in a video statement. "The statements made against Mexicans, against immigrants, show that you are an ignorant. It is unacceptable for you to launch a presidential campaign based on hatred and discrimination when calling Mexicans drug traffickers and rapists. It’s a shame that such an important institution as MISS USA is now in the hands of a clown.” When the online editor chose a picture to illustrate the article, they got a telenovela hottie, alright, but it wasn't the correct one. Instead they used a photo of "Lo Que La Vida Me Robó" star, Sebastián Rulli. The site noticed the mistake and quickly deleted the piece and republished it again with a pic of Roselyn Sanchez and Cristián De La Fuente. See picture down below!
Cristian's co-host, Roselyn, also dropped out of her hosting duties after Univision made the announcement they wouldn't be airing the Miss USA beauty pageant. "As a LATINA and proud of my roots, culture and everything we have contributed to this nation, I have decided to cancel my participation as co-host of Miss USA," Sánchez posted on Instagram. "I don't tolerate the disrespectful and hurtful words that came out of Mr. Trump's mouth. It seems like a like that in his announcement as a presidential candidate he would have that lack of judgement and decency. Mexicans, like all our Latino brothers have contributed positively to this great nation. We are the force that keeps this country afloat. I was very excited and grateful with the opportunity to serve as a co-host of this great event in which many Latinas have shined, but I am more excited for the loyalty to my people. Enough with racism and "influential" people that belittle."
