US Marshals are understandably trying to boost efforts to nail down fugitive Brian Laundrie. The only problem is that the 23-year-old continues to be on the run and authorities have been arresting doppelgangers.
The latest one to fall prey to the Brian Laundrie hunt is Severin Beckwith. He along with partner Anna Brettman was sleeping at the Lodge Fontana Village Resort recently but had to deal with an uncanny encounter with US marshalls, the New Yorker reported.
Beckwith was a dead-ringer for Laundrie and it appears some personnel tipped off police about the possible sighting of the 23-year-old Laundrie.
But after careful evaluation of Beckwith, authorities eventually figured out that they had the wrong guy. Beckwith did not have the tattoos that Laundrie had and all that was ironed out when he showed them valid identification.
To avoid any future mix-ups, Beckwith ended up shaving his beard. He however regrets it because he had much less of a chin compared to the 23-year-old fugitive.
To make up for the inconvenience stemming from a Fontana Lake employee, the couple were given a free night’s stay and a complimentary breakfast. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding although Beckwith is not the first one to experience such.
Just last month, there was another Laundrie lookalike that popped up from TikTok. Using the handle @notbrianlaundrie, the unidentified man was seen doing laundry in one clip and asking other TikTokers for tips on how to avoid getting “attacked” for being confused with the fugitive.
Hence, the hunt for Laundrie continues in connection with the Gabrielle Petito case. It has been more than a month since the search for Laundrie was started and authorities have yet to catch any luck.
Petito's remains were discovered in Wyoming on Sept. 19. The Teton County coroner determined her cause of death was strangulation. Laundrie has not been officially linked to the death of Petito and remains a person of interest for now.
