Costa Rica fans are dancing in the street after their impressive 3-1 victory over South American powerhouse Uruguay, who simply did not show up in the second half of play creating real doubt on whether or not it can stay alive in the 2014 World Cup tournament. Uruguay is now in danger of not getting out of the group play and is going to have to rely on whether or not its star forward, Luis Suarez, who did not play today match against Costa Rica due to a injury, can step into the picture in its next game against England on June 19 and get things turned around which is no walk in the park. Costa Rica can now take on its sights on Italy, who it next plays next on June 20.

Winning today’s match, the Ticos can go back to the hotel and enjoy a job well done in man handling of Uruguay’s squad that squandered its opening game. Joel Campbell, Costa Rica’s star forward, had a stellar performance, scoring in the 54’ minute on a nicely settled ball from just inside the top of the box off a cross from the right side beating the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, who did not move on the shot. Campbell also assisted on the third goal, on a nice through ball to Marco Urena who iced the game making it 3-1. Oscar Duarte hit the back of the net in the 57’ minute to give the Costa Ricans its first lead of the game by heading home a tough cross from the right side.

Costa Rica’s Goalkeeper Keilor Navos, had one of those matches where he seemed to be exactly where he needed to be to protect the lead for Costa Rica once it went ahead with the 2-1 lead in the second half. Costa Rica is going to need Navos have a similar performance in their next two group matches against Italy and England and we very well could see a Costa Rican squad in the knock out stage.
