
This is it! Mazda has just unveiled its all-new 2016 Miata and it is definitely one of the most stunning debuts we have seen in 2014. At 6:00 p.m. PST, or 9:00 p.m. EST, as many as 23,000 Mazda fans tuned into the live stream.
Mazda design director Derek Jenkins kicked off the epic live stream event and described the efforts to deliver "jinba ittai" to the next level in the 2016 Miata. Jenkins emphasized a necessity to really capture the classic roadster while delivering a state-of-the-art design. Anyway, enough of the marketing fluff. Here she is:
UPDATE: since our last post, it looks like Duran Duran ended the Miata event. Unfortunately, Derek Jenkins did not mention any specifics regarding specs and figures. How rude!
As we mentioned before, the new 2016 Mazda Miata features an all-new chassis that positions its engine closer to the center and lower to the ground than ever before. Check out that incredible wedge-shaped front end!
As for what's under the hood, we still have no confirmation regarding the 2016 Mazda Miata power plant. That said, reports suggest the new Miata will feature a 2.0-liter Skyactiv producing about 200 horsepower as well as a 1.5-liter engine offering 130 horsepower. If this is true, then the 2.0 Skyactiv is definitely the engine for us.
