Last night Univision premiered "Mi Marido Tiene Familia," a new comedy from the creators of "Una Familia Con Suerte" and "Mi Corazón Es Tuyo," starring Zuria Vega ("Un Refugio Para El Amor") and Daniel Arenas ("Corazón Indomable"). The telenovela faced off "Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso" on Telemundo that has been a solid player since the premiere of the third season with the return of Carmen Villalobos as Catalina Santana. Competition was fierce, but there was only one winner in this ratings war.
The first episode of "Mi Marido Tiene Familia" did not do as expected and in the overnight ratings drew 1.4 million in total audience and only 635,000 in the 18-49 key demographic, while "Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso" scored 1.8 million in total and 1 million in the demo. Univision has a steep uphill battle in their conquest to dominating Spanish-language television.
Telemundo is enjoying their solid numbers after a rough first six months. On that same Monday night, the network won the whole night. "Mariposa de Barrio," which airs at 8pm/7c, received 1.6 million (762,000 in 18-49 demo) while its rival on Univision, "Enamorándome de Ramón" was edged out scoring 1.5 million (762,000 in 18-49 demo).
During the 10pm/9c, time slot that Telemundo has dominated for years thanks to hits like "El Señor de los Cielos," the network posted 2 million and 1.1 million in the demo, while "La Tierra Prometida" got 1.3 million and 508,000 in the demo.
Telemundo's luck change after changing up their primetime premiering ratings juggernauts like "El Señor de los Cielos" Season 5 and the sequel to "Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso" and promptly axing telenovelas like "La Fan" and "Guerra de Idolos." This has led the Spanish-language network to be ranked as #1 among adults 18-49 for the past four consecutive weeks - Telemundo 894,000 vs. Univision 688,000 - and have a +30% lead.
“Mi Marido Tiene Familia” tells the story of Julieta Aguilar (Zuria Vega) and Robert Cooper (Daniel Arenas), a modern and successful couple who appear to have the perfect life. They are all each other has as Robert was adopted and never had a real family, and Julieta’s family lives far away. Life takes an unexpected turn when Robert and Julieta discover that their neighbors, who are artisanal bakers, are actually Robert’s biological family. Their relationship quickly goes from “just me and you” to “me, you and your mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins and abuelitos.”
"Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso" follows Catalina Santana, as it's revealed that she survived the attack that she ordered against herself. She recovers miraculously, thanks to the care and dedication of Santiago, the doctor in charge of her. The TEA becomes interested in her case, because Catalina can serve as a witness to prosecute the Cartels of Moron, Cardona, Titi and even Marcial Barrera, all of them imprisoned in the United States. A romance arises between Catalina and Santiago, and she eventually begins a new life with him in Miami, leaving her past behind, starting her own family, changing her identity and working with the TEA to capture who was once her best friend and now mortal enemy, Yesica.
