Tyson Ramirez, a University of Washington doctoral student in economics, is counting his blessings after a massive tree uprooted in severe weather and fell directly onto his car Tuesday night, trapping him inside.

Moments before the crash, Ramirez sensed impending danger and braced for impact. "I kind of slumped back in my seat a little bit... sure enough, the tree crashes," he told KING. The tree crushed the car's roof and pinned him inside, leaving him unable to exit through the doors.

Bystanders called 911 and offered support, even snapping photos of the surreal scene. Ramirez was stuck for 90 minutes before firefighters freed him, reuniting him with his family.

"I can't even believe I walked away from that," Ramirez said, attributing his survival to divine intervention and the heroic firefighters of Squad 31.

Though his car was totaled, Ramirez remains grateful to be alive. His family has launched a GoFundMe to help him purchase a new vehicle.
