In an emotional plea Sunday, Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska requested media to share the “terrible truth” of how Russian soldiers are slaying children in her country amid invasion.
Zelenska posted on Instagram photographs of five kids killed during Russian attacks.
She wrote that she appeals to all the "unbiased media in the world," and wants them to tell this "terrible truth" that "Russian invaders are killing Ukrainian children." She wants the media to share this with Russian mothers so that they know what exactly "their sons are doing" in Ukraine. She wants the photographs to be shown to Russian women so that they know their brothers, husbands and compatriots are killing children in Ukraine. She wants them to know that "they are personally responsible for the death of every Ukrainian child because they gave their tacit consent to these crimes.”
According to New York Post, at least 38 children have died in the Russia-Ukraine conflict so far. Zelenska further wrote in the caption that this figure might be increasing due to the shelling of "peaceful cities!” She pointed out that when Russians say that their soldiers are not hurting civilians, "show them these pictures!" She asked how many more kids "must die to convince Russian troops to stop firing and allow humanitarian corridors?”
She said that the five children who featured in the post ranged in age from 18 months to 14 years. Kirill Yatsko, 18 months old, was photographed by the Associated Press as his parents carried the child into a hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine.
Zelenska previously posted a video message on Instagram, and she said that the First Ladies across the world were asking her how they can help Ukraine as the war continues. She said that her answer is to "tell the truth to the world!" She pointed out that what is happening in Ukraine is "not a 'special military operation', as Putin says." She described it as "a full-scale war, where the aggressor is the Russian Federation."
Recently, the bodies of those killed in the mortar attack during the conflict were seen lying motionless on a road, reported Daily Mail. Beside them were packed suitcases and even a pet carrier. Among those killed in the attack by Russian President Vladimir Putin's troops in Irpin, a town 12 miles from Kyiv, were three members of the same family. Some images also captured the terrifying moment of children, mothers, fathers and grandparents running from Russian artillery fire.
According to the UK Government, Russia was targeting "populated areas" to break Ukrainian people's resistance.
