An outpouring of grief is happening in Suffolk after a beloved radio DJ from the United Kingdom died on Monday while on air during a radio broadcast, with authorities saying that a heart attack is the suspected cause.
Tim Gough, a 55-year-old radio DJ, was in his home studio in Lackford, Suffolk doing the Monday breakfast show for GenX Radio when he reportedly died on-air, causing shock to his family and the community at large, according to BBC.
A Suffolk native, Gough had started his career in radio in 1986 at Radio Orwell, before getting his own radio breakfast show at Saxon Radio and SGR-FM. He’s also known for different work in various other radio stations near the area, The Guardian reported.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform you our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away this morning while presenting his [program],” GenX Radio said in a statement. “Our love to his family, son, sister, brother and [mother]. Tim was doing what he loved. He was 55 years old.”
“To know Tim personally, as I did very closely for over 30 years, was to know a warm, caring, fun guy who myself and my family loved dearly. We are heartbroken by the news,” GenX Radio managing director James Hazell said.
Many of his colleagues, shocked by his sudden death, have opened up about their experiences with Gough during his decades in radio broadcasting, with many testifying to the strength of character that Gough had.
“Such sad news. When I was at Smooth Radio Nottingham he took me under his wing, super-caring and all-round lovely man. What an awful shock,” Gaynor Marshall from BBC Radio said.
“Absolutely gutted to hear this news about Tim. He was my first-ever boss in radio at Leicester Sound when I was 18 and was so wonderful. I have the happiest of memories and we always kept in touch, and if it wasn’t for him I might not be in radio,” Virgin Radio U.K. presenter Amy Voce said.
