Jon Jones has yet to see action once more in the UFC although it appears he has a set date for his return.
The 44-year-old mixed martial artist last competed at UFC 247 when he won via unanimous decision over Dominick Reyes on Feb. 8, 2020, successfully defending the UFC light heavyweight title in Houston, Texas.
However, “Bones” vacated the title on Aug. 17, 2020, with reported plans of moving up to heavyweight.
While that is understandable, the legal cases that Jones has found himself into have been tarnishing his fight sports career. Some have called for the UFC to cut him but it appears that is not happening any time soon.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion is busy training as he prepares for his first match as an official heavyweight.
Jones spoke to KRQE recently and gave a couple of target dates on when MMA fans may expect to see him back in action inside the cage.
“I’m looking to fight somewhere in April, possibly Madison Square Garden, or a total opposite date, possibly July at International Fight Week,” Jones stated. “Those are the two dates that I’m kind of eying. I think it’ll depend on who wins in January between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, and we’ll just take it from there.”
Overall, Jones claims he is in the best of fighting shape and is aching to show that in the cage soon. He is currently working with Fight Ready in Arizona instead of JacksonWink in New Mexico.
Although he is upbeat, it remains that Jones still needs to face another legal battle.
His court date in November was reset for January 2020 regarding a scuffle that involved his fiancée that damaged a Las Vegas police car at Caesar’s Palace last September. He is currently out on bail and has yet to know if he will be facing criminal charges, USA Today reported.
