Irwin Rivera, who’s popularly known as “The Beast” in the UFC circuit, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder. The Floridian was apprehended in Palm Beach County on Thursday after he allegedly stabbed his sisters at his place. While the two sisters were rushed to a hospital nearby, one’s recuperating really well and the other is still critical.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by a media outlet; the police were alerted of a violent attack that took place in an apartment in Boynton Beach where they discovered a 22-year-old woman, Rivera's sister, near the road. Upon a detailed probe, it was clear that she suffered multiple stabbings and two collapsed lungs. As authorities made a quick visit to the apartment, it was learned that the UFC player’s 33-year-old sister had been stabbed too.
As per the sisters’ version, they’d been living with Rivera for quite some time. While they hadn’t disclosed much about whether the relationship was a violent one; they reported that it was shocking to be woken up to find him stabbing them.
Rivera, who was conscious during the act, allegedly attempted to flee the scene before police arrived but was eventually nabbed.
While the news of Rivera’s violence shook the UFC community, a statement was released that suggested that the organization was “aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and subsequently received information from his management that he has been exhibiting behavior consistent with mental health issues.”
The statement read: “The allegations are extremely troubling and the organization is currently gathering additional information. The investigation is ongoing and any potential next steps including disciplinary action or medical attention will be determined upon the conclusion.”
The UFC made it clear that Rivera’s management was informed about their decision to not offer him about this time around. His team is yet to respond to the entire controversy.
Rivera’s been quite a powerful player who fought three times last year, defeating Ali AlQaisi in August. But, it stands unclear as to whether he’s hired an attorney as yet.
