Two women have been charged with child abuse after they were filmed allegedly slapping around a 3-year-old boy at a church daycare in Georgia.
The suspects, Bernetta Glover and Autumn Coney, were reportedly caught on camera attacking an unnamed 3-year-old boy, slamming the toddler to the floor and also pulling him up by his hair and throwing him into a corner, as well as slapping and punching the child multiple times at Clarkston First Baptist Daycare on Church Street. After the footage surfaced, the duo was issued arrest warrants on charges of cruelty to children in the first degree by the Clarkston Police Department, New York Post reported.
On July 6, when the victim's grandmother went to pick up the toddler, she noticed that he was "visibly upset" and "did not seem like himself." Following this, when the grandmother asked to speak to a teacher, the daycare employee seemed upset and behaved as if she "was going to fight with her."
Later, the boy’s mother, Krystin Collier, noticed that her son had new bruises and immediately sensed something went wrong at the church daycare. She later requested to see video footage from a camera inside the facility that day.
Following her request to see the surveillance video from July 6, the daycare turned over the film to Collier on July 13. When Collier checked the video footage, what Collier saw left her feeling sick, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
“One of the teachers picks up my son from one side of her body and slams him to the other side of her body, I guess to make him sit down,” Collier said.
The video reportedly showed a teacher picking up Collier’s son and aggressively throwing him to the floor.
“The staff punched my child in the face, grab him by his ponytail, and led him around like it’s a leash. I watched her grab him by his top ponytail, slam him against the wall, punch him in the face,” Collier recounted.
After seeing the horrifying video footage, the mom immediately pulled her son out of the daycare program and called the police to inform them of the abuse.
“I’m very disgusted, very disappointed because this is a church daycare,” Collier said. “I trusted these people with my child.”
