Two Utah boys, 4 and 10, were found murdered in their home in West Point, UT at 7:36 p.m. local time, when their mother returned home Wednesday.
Police have arrested their 15-year-old brother, whose name was not released, Thursday morning in conjunction with their deaths. He is currently being held at the Farmington Bay Youth Detention Center, the New York Daily News reported.
The mother of the boys had gone to a dance recital she took her other three children to Wednesday, NBC News reports. She returned to find her 4-year-old stabbed to death and reported the 10 and 15-year-olds missing.
When police searched the house, they discovered the body of the 10-year-old.
"The manner of death appears to be consistent with penetrating knife wounds, however, the official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office," Davis County Sheriff Todd Richardson said in a press release.
The teen was found just before midnight in Layton, a town 5 miles away, CBS News reported. Police took him to the hospital for evaluation.
The boy had reportedly run away once before about a year ago, with neighbors saying he was only gone a few hours before being returned home by police.
Lindsey Caballero, a neighbor and family friend, told the Associated Press that there were six children in the family, with the 15-year-old being the eldest biological son. Four of the children were adopted, the two victims being among them.
"They were definitely a very positive family," Ann Durrwachter, neighbor and parent of a boy who attends school with the suspect, told KSL. "Sweet, sweet family. Our kids played together. They walked up and down our streets, rode bikes."
Other neighbors have described the boy as a model citizen, but police have declined to comment on his current mental state.
This incident is the second in a month of a minor murdering a younger sibling. A 12-year-old boy was charged with second-degree murder of his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler, in the town of Valley Springs, Calif. The girl was found stabbed multiple times April 27.
