When Donald Trump landed in Laredo, Texas, to kick off his tour of the U.S.-Mexico border, plenty of people were there to greet him, but they weren’t all friendly. Members of the League of United Latin American Citizens (Lulac) showed up to protest Trump at the airport, telling reporters that the presidential candidate was not welcome. Latino protesters held signs criticizing Trump’s controversial comments about Mexican immigrants and Pows. At the beginning of his campaign in June, Trump called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “criminals.” On Saturday, Trump angered veterans when said " I like people that weren't captured, OK ?" in reference to Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), who was tortured in a POW camp during the Vietnam War.
Trump was also greeting by some Hispanic supporters.
"I heard your speech and I am NOT offended! I'm Hispanic. I'm an American," one sign read, in an image captured by reporter Jason Buch. He tweeted that the numbers of protesters and supporters were outnumbered by media representitives.
"No era insulto," read another in Spainish (it wasn't an insult).
