Donald Trump's latest effort to dodge sentencing in his felony hush money case fell flat Monday, as a New York judge dismissed his arguments as little more than a rehash of past attempts.
The decision, handed down by Judge Juan Merchan, denied Trump's latest request to delay sentencing following his conviction in the high-profile case, according to Axios.
Merchan wrote in a filing Monday that most of the former President's claims were "a repetition of the arguments he has raised numerous times in the past."
Merchan denied Trump's request to overturn the verdict and dismiss the case based on presidential immunity and his anticipated second term, stating that justice could only be served by "bringing finality to this matter," NBC reported.
Trump's lawyers submitted the motion earlier the same day, according to Fox, seeking to postpone sentencing in the case.
Trump's sentencing is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, at 9:30 a.m., just 10 days before he is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Jan. 20.
Trump was convicted April 2023 of on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
