President Donald Trump threatened legal action against authors and media outlets that use "anonymous sources," calling them "defamatory fiction" and suggesting they don't "even exist."
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump expressed outrage over books and news articles citing anonymous sources, claiming that many of these sources "largely do not exist."
The president warned that he might sue authors, publishers and media organizations to expose what he calls "blatant dishonesty" and suggested that his administration might introduce a new law to prevent such reporting.
"At some point I am going to sue some of these dishonest authors and book publishers, or even media in general, to find out whether or not these 'anonymous sources' even exist, which they largely do not. They are made up, defamatory fiction, and a big price should be paid for this blatant dishonesty," Trump said.
Trump's latest comments come amid renewed scrutiny following the release of Michael Wolff's book "All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America," which details Trump's inner circle, including lawyer Boris Epshteyn and billionaire Elon Musk.
Wolff's past works, such as "Fire and Fury," have also drawn Trump's ire for their portrayal of his administration.
The president's remarks follow a broader pattern of hostility toward the press, including his administration's recent decision to take control of the White House press pool, altering which outlets are granted access.
