President Donald Trump said he will play an active role in seeking to replace Republican Rep. Thomas Massie after he refused to support the party's government funding bill.

"Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic 'NO' vote on just about everything," Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, a reference to the fact that the lawmaker has frequently gone against the party's wishes over his libertarian views.

Trump added that Massie should be primaried and said he will "lead the charge against him," recalling he also helped oust former Rep. Liz Cheney, a vocal Trump critic ever since the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol.

The lawmaker is refusing to support the short-term spending bill spearheaded by House Speaker Mike Johnson, claiming it maintains federal funding levels from last year without contemplating the cuts made by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk. Considering Republicans have a two-vote majority, the party can't practically afford to lose votes, making Massie's refusal a politically sensitive matter.

Massie has brushed off Trump's threats, saying he has been repeatedly challenged in the past and prevailed every time. "Someone thinks they can control my voting card by threatening my re-election. Guess what? Doesn't work on me. Three times I've had a challenger who tried to be more MAGA than me. None busted 25% because my constituents prefer transparency and principles over blind allegiance," he said in a publication on X.

Mike Johnson is set to move forward with the vote despite the uncertainty, reportedly as soon as Tuesday. Should the bill manage to pass the House, it will need the support of some Democrats in the Senate to make it to Donald Trump's desk.

"No one wants to shut the government down. We are governing, doing the responsible thing as Republicans. It's going to be up to Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats to do the right thing," Johnson told press on Monday.

Trump urged Republicans to fall in line: "remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right," he said on Truth Social.
