Former President Donald Trump lashed out over a recent report that his daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner are avoiding him as he works on his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump announced his candidacy for President last month while facing criminal investigations, reported Independent. The probes are related to him unlawfully taking classified documents to his Mar-a-Lago property and his efforts to overturn his 2020 U.S. Presidential election loss to Joe Biden.
Trump recently addressed a New York Intelligencer report into his Mar-a-Lago life over the past 30 days, since he made his announcement that he would be running for president again. The piece said that Trump became "defensive" when he was asked about reports that Ivanka and Kushner hesitated to lend him a helping hand after he was slammed for his dinner with controversial rapper Kanye West and white nationalist Nick Fuentes. It was also noted in the report that his daughter and her husband have continued to keep their distance from him since the 2020 election loss.
On Monday, Trump claimed that he never asked Kushner or Ivanka to be "part of the 2024 Campaign for President and, in fact, specifically asked them not to do it." He suggested that he didn't want them to deal with "too mean and nasty" fake and "corrupt news." He also wanted them to stay away from "some absolutely horrendous sleazebags in the world of politics, and beyond." He added that there has "never been anything like this 'ride' before, and they should not be further subjected to it."
Earlier it was reported that Trump begged both his daughter and Kushner to join his campaign team during his daughter Tiffany Trump’s wedding, according to New York Post. A source had said that Trump thought he could convince Ivanka to come back and "campaign for him as she was the most requested speaker after the president himself last time around." But she’s been "resisting his entreaties and holding firm." The same goes for her husband, according to the source. The insider added that the couple feel that they "got burned in Washington and don’t want to go back and expose themselves and their children to another bitter campaign.”
Trump had announced his 2024 Presidential campaign on Nov. 15, and the same night his daughter released a statement saying that she would not be part of the campaign team.
