"President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity," said Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump's campaign, in a statement. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at Trump International Golf Course, with Secret Service agents responding to the scene alongside officers from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

According to Teri Barbera, spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, a "person of interest" was taken into custody and is being questioned. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi also confirmed Trump's safety, adding that more details will be provided as the investigation continues.

Donald Trump Jr. posted on social media that an AK-47 was recovered "in the bushes" near the golf course.

Following the incident, Sen. Lindsey Graham took to X to praise Trump's resilience, saying, "Just spoke with President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I've ever known. He's in good spirits and more resolved than ever to save our country."

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation. Harris shared on her X account: "I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America."

The shooting comes two months after Trump was wounded at a rally in Butler, Pa., where he was hit by gunfire.

This is a developing story.
