Former President Trump faced a barrage of social media mockery on Tuesday after confusing the names of an Alaskan wildlife refuge and an air base in Afghanistan on national television.

Trump was discussing his policies on energy and fuel at a town hall in Flint, Michigan. The former President misspoke when talking about how he was able to get oil drilling approved in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, commonly referred to as ANWR. However, instead of saying ANWR, Trump said "Bagram", the name of the U.S.' former air base in Afghanistan.

"We were energy independent, we were soon going to be energy dominant, and we would've been now having so much money coming out of the energy." said Trump. "We just have the best. We have Bagram in Alaska. They say it might be as big, might be bigger, than all of Saudi Arabia. I got it approved. Ronald Reagan couldn't do it, nobody could do it. I got it done. In their first week they [the Biden administration] terminated it."

The former President has become the target of a barrage of online attacks and mockery since the blunder on Tuesday. Many social media users used the incident as evidence of the 78-year-old being too old and senile to run for office.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was present at the town hall, has also been criticized as she can be seen nodding her head in agreement as Trump misspoke.

Zac Petkanas, former senior advisor to Hillary Clinton, also reacted to Trump's blunder: "Looking forward to the dozen NYT stories about Trump's age and mental acuity. Oh wait. That's just reserved for Democrats."

Trump's slip-up comes after the former President spent months hurling insults at President Joe Biden for his age, referring to the President as "senile" and "incompetent" and zeroing in on instances where Biden himself misspoke in public.
