Rapper Travis Scott was initially announced as one of the headliners for the Coachella music festival 2022, but was removed following the deadly Astroworld Festival last November.
His headlining slot was later filled by singer Harry Styles. Following this decision, some of Scott’s fans launched a Change.org petition demanding that the rapper be included in next year’s Coachella line-up, reported ET Canada.
The petition read that after Coachella "unfairly removed" Scott for Styles, the festival's organizers need to "do the right thing and rebook him immediately." The petition also read that people know Astroworld tragedy wasn’t his "fault." His fans want to see him "back to performing on the biggest stages!”
The petition, with a goal of hitting 75,000, was signed by about 70,000 of Scott’s fans. But TMZ reported that the support behind the petition dropped overnight to less than 7,500 signatures. There's another petition that was started immediately after 10 people died at Astroworld in Houston, and called for Scott's removal from Coachella's performers' list. Currently, that one has 63,000 signatures and still counting. The rapper was reportedly removed from the music festival after the petition urged Coachella organizers to dump him due to “Scott’s own gross negligence and sheer lack of compassion for human life.”
Following the Astroworld tragedy, Scott has pulled out of several music festivals. The tragedy also effectively pushed a pause on his partnerships, according to Complex. Recently, his collaboration with Dior was postponed “indefinitely.”
It seems like in the near future, he will not work with Live Nation, one of the parties involved with the organization of Astroworld. However, Goldenvoice, a company owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, organizes Coachella. It isn't clear whether they’d be happy to work with him after Astroworld or not.
Scott is also involved in several legal battles. He is facing many lawsuits following the Astroworld incident. Earlier this month, it was reported that the rapper is facing another lawsuit, which is in connection with uncleared usage of an artist’s work.
Even though his fans want him back on stage, it remains to be seen when Scott will be part of concerts again.
Meanwhile, Coachella is scheduled to take place from April 15 to April 17 and April 22 to April 24 in California.
