The initial release of the Toyota GT 86 and Scion FR-S sports cars were very honest - everything you need, nothing you don't. However, Toyota does not intend to let the GT 86 stay bare-bones for very long.
Earlier this year, Toyota already confirmed that a convertible variant is in the works. Toyota's racing arm TRD has also designed a unique body kit, providing equal measures of enhanced aero and aesthetics. What's more, Toyota announced a range of exclusive accessory options in Europe. In North America, tuner specialists Five Axis has done up the Scion FR-S as well.
Leaving no continent behind, Toyota Australia has revealed an all-new special bodykit for the GT 86.
The fresh offering includes an aggressive front bumper skirt with vertical fins controlling air entering the front grille as well as dual integrated 12-degree canards, side skirts, a rear bumper apron housing a diffuser, and finally an enormous rear spoiler featuring horizontal winglets on the uprights.
While this is an obvious styling exercise, Toyota insists that the bodykit will reduce aero drag, increase downforce, and maintain a 0.27 drag coefficient. Unfortunately, driving around with a bodykit like that will still make you look like the sort of person that uses a lot of hair products, and owns a selection of track jackets and high top sneakers.
The aero package is available exclusively to the high-grade GTS model in Australia. The add on will cost AU$3,000 (US$3,008 or €2,400).
