A tourist was reportedly found dead in a hotel room in Playa del Carmen in the Mexican Caribbean on Monday, Nov. 14.
The tourist, identified as 41-year-old Deyson Konsiechak, was found lying in bed, lifeless at the Ocean Maya Royale hotel, located a little north of Playa del Carmen on Monday, Nov. 14. The incident came to light when Konsiechak's travel companion, who was also sharing a room with him, returned to the hotel room and found Konsiechak lying in bed, lifeless, the Cancun Sun reported.
After discovering Konsiechak dead, the travel companion immediately notified the hotel about the discovery. The hotel staff further contacted the authorities and informed them about the tourist's death.
Following this, the officials from the Attorney General’s Office and the Forensic Medical Service were dispatched to the hotel located on Federal Highway 307. Authorities were sent to the hotel to determine the victim's cause of death and to determine whether it was a medical problem, a drug overdose, or foul play. However, the cause of death had not yet been reported.
Konsiechak's body was subsequently transferred to the Forensic Medical Service facilities to be further analyzed and to arrange for relatives to claim the remains.
There have been several tourist deaths in Playa del Carmen in the past as well. During the summer, two Canadian tourists were killed in a condo in Playa del Carmen during an armed robbery attack. However, at the time of the incident, authorities were unsure if the attack was related to organized crime or if it was a random incident.
Playa del Carmen is a popular vacation destination in the Mexican Caribbean and is famous for its mesmerizing aqua-blue water and beautiful white sand beaches.
In a similar but unrelated incident, three American tourists who were found dead in an Airbnb in Mexico City on Oct. 30 are believed to have died from gas inhalation, as previously reported.
Childhood friends Kandace Florence, Jordan Marhsall, and Courtez Hall, were all found unresponsive in an Airbnb located in the La Rosita neighborhood in the capital ahead of holiday celebrations for the Day of the Dead.
Security guards at the residential complex detected an intense smell of gas in the apartment which prompted them to request assistance from local authorities. Experts indicated that all three U.S. citizens died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
