Venezuela Civilian Militias To Double In Size To One Million

Anywhere between 130,000 to 400,000 civilian militia members in Venezuela have already been armed since Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s predecessor Hugo Chávez returned to office after a 2002 attempted coup. Now Maduro says he wants to hike that number up to 1 million.

In Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro equated the opposition to a conspiracy and claimed his government had information about a plot coming from the United States. US Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States might have "serious questions about the viability of that government".
