A Texas judge is out on bond after an investigation revealed he used a fake Facebook profile to garner voters' sympathy during his reelection campaign by posting racist comments to his own campaign page, authorities allege.
Fort Bend County Judge KP George allegedly pretended to be "Antonio Scalywag" on Facebook to leave hateful messages vilifying South Asians and ridiculing the Hindu religion, according to KHOU.
George's scheme came to light when Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Meyers asked the District Attorney's Office to "unmask" Antonio Scalywag "because the racist and hateful statements that were being sent out across the county were causing concern for my constituents," Meyers told ABC13.
Meyers was shocked to learn Taral Patel, a Fort Bend County commissioner candidate campaigning to replace Meyers in the Nov. 5 election, and George were behind the account and called their behavior "reprehensible." Patel, who was arrested in June and faces four felony counts of online impersonation, was George's chief of staff while he was seeking reelection in 2022.
In a message shared by KHOU, George said he is "confident that when all the facts are presented, justice will prevail." He also said he has "no intention of stepping down" despite constituents' growing calls for his resignation.
