Another one bites the dust. Tom Cruise is the last actor to be victim of a death hoax when a story about the "Oblivion" star dying in a car accident in Australia went viral Thursday night.

Australian TV station 9 News was the first in reporting the star dead in a car accident while he was in the country promoting his latest film. The report claimed he passed at 5:30 a.m., and it was allegedly confirmed by the Royal Queensland Police.

But as it happens, Cruise was very much alive and he showed up at an L.A. premiere about 12 hours later. 9 News quickly pulled the mistaken article, but not before MSN News took a screenshot of it for eternity. You can see it here.

The world was sucked into the story -- 'Tom Cruise Accident' was still trending on Friday morning.

This is not the first time Cruise is victim of a death hoax - in fact, he was rumored dead no less than three times in 2010. That year, the actor lost his life in a car accident, then fell of a cliff, only to die in a plumbing accident a few months later.

As odd as it sounds, any of the last two causes are more likely to be a peril to Cruise than a car accident. As an avid sports car driver, Tom Cruise has a significant amount of race training and is a stellar driver -- so maybe not even the dangerous Willowbank highway in Australia, in which the actor supposedly died Thursday, would have been more than a fun ride for the actor.
