A Texas store employee prevented a robbery attempt by convincing the would-be thief that he needed to make a purchase before taking any money from the register.

The incident took place August 7 at a Family Dollar store in Abilene, Texas, where a man, reportedly pretending to have a firearm, demanded cash from the store's register, according to Big Country Homepage.

The store employee remained calm and informed the suspect that the cash register could not be opened without a transaction. This led the man to make a small purchase of nail clippers.

When the drawer opened, the employee quickly closed it, effectively preventing the theft from taking place as the frustrated suspect fled.

Following the unsuccessful robbery attempt, police located and detained the suspect, who later admitted to feigning possession of a weapon to intimidate the employee.

The suspect was identified as Kasey-Mighel Ranaldo-Ray Soares, who is being held in Taylor County Jail on charges of robbery and resisting arrest on a $35,000 bond.
