A Texas man looking to replace his vehicle after his son died in a car accident is now in the middle of an ongoing legal battle between a car dealership and the local police department.
Daniel Rocha was test driving a truck from Longo Toyota in Prosper when he was pulled over by police because the vehicle did not have a license plate.
"When he stopped me, he asked for my driver's license and said the reason why I stopped you is because you don't have a license plate in the back," Rocha told WFAA.
The police officer cited Rocha for "Operating a Vehicle Without License Plates," a Texas law that stipulates vehicle operators are responsible for test-driven vehicles that fail to display dealer tags, in an effort to force the dealership to start adding license plates to their vehicles.
"'We've been getting on these guys for doing that,'" the officer stated, according to Rocha. "He said, 'in order for us to make [the dealerships] abide, we're going to start citing the customers.'"
Rocha added that the dealership said it would reimburse him for the ticket. However, he still needs to attend a court date for the citation.
"It does upset me that I'm in the middle of this feud that's going on," Rocha added.
