12 bodies have been recovered after the massive Texas fertilizer plant blast. The fire and chemical explosion occurred at the West Fertilizer Plant in West, Texas, at around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities reported that 200 are injured and produced significant damage to the buildings within a five block radius.
"With the explosions, the whole street lifted up," West City Councilwoman Cheryl Marak told ABC News. "It was like a massive bomb went off. It demolished both my houses, my mother's and mine."
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jason Reyes said it was "with a heavy heart" that authorities have confirmed 12 bodies that had been pulled from the area of the plant explosion in West, which is about 20 miles north of Waco.
Responders and rescue crews spent most of the night following the blast searching for survivors among the rubble that was left behind after the massive explosion.
Reyes continued reporting that authorities had searched and cleared 150 buildings by Friday morning and still had another 25 to examine.
