Texans Roast Proposal to Rename 'Death Trap' Highway After Trump: 'Everyone Hates I-35 Anyway'

A recently filed Texas bill aims to rename Interstate 35 in Travis County to the "President Donald J. Trump Highway."

The bill, introduced by Texas Rep. Joanne Shofner, proposes a new name for I-35, "indicating the designation as the President Donald J. Trump Highway." The legislation also aims to construct markers at each end of the interstate representing the designation.

If passed, the bill would enlist local federal departments to "design and construct markers indicating the designation as the President Donald J. Trump Highway and any other
appropriate information; and erect a marker at each end of the highway and at
appropriate intermediate sites along the highway."

Upon the bill's announcement, social media users took to online platforms to mock the designation and express criticisms of the 47th President.

"Everyone hates I-35 anyway," said one Facebook user.

"How about just calling it Insurrection Way or Traitor Trail?" wrote another.

"The road is way too long. His attention span is much shorter than that. It needs to be a ten minute drive since that is the length of time you can talk to him. Needs about twenty MC Donald's on it too," said a third.

"It'll probably turn out to be the deadliest highway in the country if that happens!" wrote a fourth.

I-35 has many designations in other Texas localities, including being referred to as the PanAm Expressway in San Antonio, the Interregional Highway in Austin and the Jack Kultgen Freeway in Waco.

The highway also reportedly represents Texas' section of the Purple Heart Trail, a "symbolic and honorary system of roads, highways, bridges, and other monuments that give tribute to the men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal," according to the trail's website.

If passed, the bill would take effect at the beginning of September.
