Since Tesla's inception, Tesla and other electric car companies alike have been ridiculed for ambitious, but ultimately impractical ideals.

A David amongst Goliaths, Tesla CEO Elon Musk never shied from making bold claims of its companies potential. What's more, Elon Musk and Tesla have made a habit of proving the industry wrong time and again.

Following the critical acclaim of its latest Tesla Model S electric sedan, Elon Musk is ready to announce Tesla's next mission: an all-electric supercar. In a recent Web Chat with Jalopnik.com, Elon Musk revealed, "We will do an electric supercar at some point. It was going to happen right after the Model X, but it is more important to the world that we do a more affordable electric car. Hopefully, we will get to an electric supercar in four to five years."

Rather than approach supercardom incrementally with a Porsche 911 competitor, Tesla vows to aim straight for Modena, taking on the best of what Lamborghini and Ferrari have to offer. Every bit as bold and ambitious as ever, lets not forget that the Tesla Model S is already capable of a 0-to-60 in just 4.4 seconds thanks to the instant torque generated from electric motors. However, the Tesla Model S Signature Performance is only capable of a top speed of 130 mph, still a far cry from the 200+ mph benchmark set by Italian supercars. Chances are Elon Musk is keeping an ace up his sleeve and the engineers at Tesla are developing ways to raise top speed as we speak.

That said, we can't wait to see what Tesla will bring to the table!
