Former Springfield Mayor Billy Paul Cornell crashed into a utility pole in the downtown area of Springfield, Tennessee, causing a power outage in that area of the city.

The crash, which occurred on 7th Avenue, broke the top half of the utility pole into two and exposed live wires which fell and draped over the awning of Austin & Bell Funeral Home, causing it to catch fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished by Springfield Firew crews.

The crash was caused by Cornell's attempt to grab a sausage biscuit. He went to go pick it up and before he knew it, the pole was right in front of him, he told Smokey Barn News.

Cornell was not injured in the incident.

Springfield Electric was quickly able to restore power to some areas of downtown after promptly arriving at the scene. However, some areas of downtown remained without power, with officials saying it could take hours to restore it.
