Telemundo has made major announcement to refresh their programming for next season. The Spanish-language network has announced two new series that are in the works -- one about the life of boxer Julio César Chávez and the other one about Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez. The revelations came after "El Señor De Los Cielos" was picked up for Season 5, with a spin-off also in the works, and "La Querida Del Centauro" returning for Season 2.
“El César” follows the story of Mexico’s legendary and worldwide boxing idol, Julio César Chávez. A man who remains undefeated for 13 years, 11 months and 14 days, Julio César Chávez has everything: family, fame, money and legions of followers. However, his access to the netherworld of drug dealers, love affairs with Hollywood stars, the highest levels of political power and addictions to alcohol and drugs, will end his career and also almost end his life. The series will bring viewers into the Mexican Grand Champion’s stormy life in and out of the ring, as he lives through the rough path that will turn him into an idol.
“Hugo Chavez, El Comandante” (Hugo Chavez, The Commander), starring Andres Parra, is a fictional story inspired on the life of Hugo Chavez, a man of humble origins, who at 44 years of age and against all odds, became the most powerful and controversial Latin American leader of his time. During his leadership, Hugo managed to challenge the world and control its largest oil reserves.
"El César" is slated to premiere Sunday nights on Telemundo and will air weekly, while the Hugo Chávez series will air weeknights.
