One of the hip-hop world's most controversial figures, Tekashi 6ix9ine, is in the headlines again but not for a hit single. The rainbow-haired rapper with facial tattoos is facing again legal troubles.

This time, the 27-year-old artist has accepted a plea deal that will send him back to prison for a month, followed by an additional three months under supervision. The rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernández, was arrested in October after his probation officer reported multiple violations of his supervision terms. These included unauthorized travel and failing mandatory drug tests.

Tekashi was just months away from completing his supervision period when he decided to break the rules.

According to the deal reached with prosecutors, 6ix9ine's sentence is as follows:

  • One month in prison
  • One month of house arrest
  • Another month of house detention (essentially the same, but with stricter restrictions)
  • One month with a curfew and electronic monitoring

Federal Judge Paul A. Engelmayer has given partial support to the agreement. However, the judge wants both the prosecution and the defense to explain why this sentence is sufficient, considering 6ix9ine's repeated violations.

To understand why this latest legal issue is significant, let's take a quick look back:

  • February 2019: Tekashi is sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in organized crime with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang and pleads guilty to ordering the shooting of fellow rapper Chief Keef.
  • September 2019: As part of a cooperation agreement, he admits to domestic violence 'from 2011 to November 2018.'
  • April 2020: The rapper is released early due to COVID-19 concerns.
  • January 2023: 6ix9ine is detained in the Dominican Republic on domestic violence charges.
  • October 2023: Another arrest, allegedly for assaulting a music producer.

What's Next for 6ix9ine?

On November 12, Tekashi will have to appear before Judge Engelmayer to formally admit his violations and receive his sentence.

One thing is certain: this new conviction casts doubt on the future of 6ix9ine's music career. Can the rapper recover from this latest legal setback, or will this be the final chapter in his controversial journey in hip-hop?
