Two teenage boys have been charged with homicide after they savagely raped and beat a 36-year-old woman to death in September 2020 after she refused to give them money. Kamare Lewis, 17, and Kevin Spencer, 15, each face charges of first-degree intentional homicide while investigators are in the process of identifying 11 other boys who were party to the crime.
According to police reports, the victim, who was identified as Ee Lee, was found half-naked and barely breathing by a pond at Washington Library Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was rushed to a local hospital but had died days later due to blunt force trauma to her head.
A boy whose DNA was found on a bottle at the scene told investigators how Lewis and Spencer targeted the victim at random. As he was being questioned, the boy said he "didn't want to be involved and started walking away," which resulted in him being hit by a juice bottle thrown by one of the teenagers.
In his statement, he said they spotted the lady on a blanket in the park... walked up to her to see if she had any money, and started harassing her," he told authorities.
Other witness accounts revealed that the teenage boys dragged Lee under a tree, stripped her naked and abused her. They had also apparently recorded videos of their assault on their mobile phones and sent the footage to friends through Facebook messenger.
A supposed bystander called 911 to report the incident but was later found to be an associate of Lewis and Spencer as he was seen walking alongside them.
Prosecutors said the caller later offered up a "detailed statement" and claimed to have seen video footage on Lewis’ phone which captured Lewis and Spencer beating the woman while the pair forced her to perform sexual acts.
Months later, the boy's mother told police there was further footage on her son's old iPhone.
Investigators say surveillance cameras in the area showed 11 youths leaving the park on foot and on bicycles at the time of the crime.
Spencer is said to have confessed to the charges saying he and Lewis raped and beat Lee. Lewis however, allegedly tried to downplay his involvement in the killing adding that Spencer and the others did most of the beating. He even claimed that the victim offered to have sex with him consensually, in front of the other boys before they crowded around and began hitting her.
During his interrogation, Lewis told investigators that he ‘didn’t really care about the victim because she was not someone he knew personally hence why he left her for dead, The Metro wrote.
In an article on The Sun, it said both teens' DNA was found on the victim's body and clothing. They are currently being held in custody with bail set at $300,000 for Spencer and $275,000 for Lewis.
If convicted, they face up to 60 years in prison.
